-
- I very much suppose that you don't understand the meaning of multimedia !
- It originally ment combining of graphics and sound, and that could be
- done only with multitasking machines where another program was taking
- care of the sound and one for graphics and so on... When some standards
- were made, others could adapt them to their programs AFTER the PC had enough
- horsepower and memory to do that with huge programs (separate subroutines for
- sound and graphics and ...) and interrupts were fast enough to let it happen.
-
- : built-in audio?
-
- That means cheap and supported as well as combined with multitasking,
- realtime audio.
-
- > A card is just as real a solution.
-
- It mostly is now. Before -90 it was NOT. Where might the PC be without
- the original C-64 audio chips that could be standardly inserted to
- "standard" PC cards ? Only because PC could get use from already supported
- soundchips (a lot of people knew how to get sound out of those) it got
- standard.
-
- > DEEP color palette?
-
- At that time, YES ! Normal PC was only 4 colours (CGA) and Mac was only 2.
-
- : A rather generous definition of 'deep' I think.
-
- Pseudo 12 is much more than 1 or 2 bit graphics STANDARD !
-
- : Output to a TV? Again, what does this have to do with multimedia?
-
- Cheap and another great advantage is the input and genlocking as well.
- Real time video is much cheaper, efective, informative, ... than still
- graphics or some short animation from HD (Do you remember the size of
- normal HD at that time ?)
-
- : You want good multimedia, find a nice big Trinitron display.
-
- Actually that is not cheap and IMO better solution for presentation graphics
- could be to use a videowall or videoguns. Interactive multimedia (like in
- museums) needs cheap (tv v.s. monitor, speakers v.s. MIDI synthetizers, CD
- v.s. HD, ...) and reliable solutions that are easily updated when needed.
-
- > Being able
- : to output video to sub-standard devices for vewing isn't exactly a big
- : recomendation.
-
- Depands on the need. If you mean that VHS is worse than U-Matic, you are
- correct. Still it is sometimes very wise to send some VHS (standard,
- CHEAP) tape to customer rather than visiting there with expencive
- machines that sometimes refuce to work even if handled with care.
- When the customer have showed their interests, it is possible to visit
- and to show how easy and efficien it is with our product and ALL I
- have met have agreed that no other _multimedia_ producer could
- provide that much QUALITY with any other system.
-
- Amiga is SO MUCH more than you think.
